Ultimate Guide To Buy Amazon Echo India Version: Echo Dot, Amazon Echo & Echo Plus
If there is any company which knows how to build great consumer devices then it is Amazon for sure.
Their consistency with building high-quality hardware products is very impressive.
Not that they have been successful with all their product launches
But the ones that have been successful have been dominating the industry unlike anything else.
They have been successful with Kindle, Fire Stick and now they have come up with this really cool product Amazon Echo which has an AI assistant Alexa which is it’s operating system.
So basically Amazon echo is a cool looking hardware device that looks like your usual surround sound speaker. It takes input from your voice & decodes your voice input by connecting to its smart cloud system using your home WIFI connection.
Just like windows, it has an operating system too. It is powered by an AI assistant called Alexa. Alexa will help you in playing music, Answering questions, reading emails, calling your contacts, reading and typing messages, providing information on the internet, sports score, weather and so much more – instantly.
All you have you do is just Ask Alexa…
It took Amazon a lot of time to bring this device to India. Mainly because they wanted to tweak the Alexa in such a manner so that it can suit Indian pronunciations and dialects.
As of now, it can understand, English, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil and some other languages but they are hoping to increase this list and add more languages to the Alexa cloud database.
It also recognizes Indian songs, music, titles, albums and artists which all happens in the prime music option.
Amazon has even confirmed that they are even working with a lot of third-party developers and getting them onboard to integrate their services with Alexa.
As they are getting more developers onboard the list of brands connecting with them will continue to grow and it will get better over time.
I hope that at least by now it sounds like an impressive device to you.
But when I first heard of it, the first thing that came to my mind was Jarvis from Ironman movie.
I hope you remember that cool voice-based assistant which Tony Stark had in his day to day life?
If you see Alexa, it isn’t as advanced as Jarvis but it is 15-20% there in terms of its capabilities.
But who knows? Maybe that’s the master plan of Amazon.
To build something like Jarvis and build a future for you.
But anyways, coming back to the device.
So Amazon just launched this whole Echo Range of devices here in India.
As of now they have 3 products in their product line
They have Echo Dot, Amazon Echo & Echo Plus.
So let’s find out more about these devices in depth.
What is Echo Dot, Amazon Echo, and Echo Plus?
Amazon Echo is a smart range of devices (just like Jarvis) which is connected to the internet and takes your input from your voice. On the outside, it might look like a simple speaker but on the inside, the assistant that powers the hardware is something called as Alexa.
Alexa, is the name of the voice-based assistant which Amazon and its development team have created for this device.
Just like there is Siri for iPhone, Cortana for windows phone.
Amazon has been getting decent enough traction for these devices in the US (Close to 10M) and seeing the success of Amazon Echo. Even google couldn’t resist but step into this market with their product google Home.
But they haven’t been doing as good as Amazon Echo.
All Echo devices are operational and rest idle at sleep mode.
The moment you say the word, Alexa.
They are awake.
Alexa is the codeword for them to call out for attention.
The moment you call them out, the device’s lights get activated on the top, which means that it is recording your voice.
Then once you are done that your voice input.
Then Alexa sends your recording to the cloud repository of Amazon from where it detects and decodes your voice command and looks for a relevant solution for it.
Once it finds that then it plays it back as an audio note via speakers.
Now I know as you read it, it might sound like a lot of work for you but trust me once you get a hang of it, you’ll realise how easy it is to do your day to day tasks without even touching your phone or your computer.
I personally think this is 10x easier than typing it out your phone/computer.
(You can book your cab, pizza, schedules, songs just by asking Alexa to do so)
You can even turn the volume up and down by asking Alexa to do so.
It has a microphone on the top to receive your voice input.
In the advanced echo plus version, there are 7 microphones so that they are able to catch your voice even from the farthest far ends of your room.
What is the use of Amazon Echo India Version?
Now, this is where things get slightly interesting. Just like Siri you can ask anything to Alexa and get your answers from it. It will help you in fetching answers which are simple and easy to give like trivial maths, weather, traffic updates, cricket scores, and other news related updates as well.
Amazon has also integrated Amazon Echo with a host of popular startups and companies for rendering their services through the Alexa voice assistant format.
For example, Zomato has tied with them for restaurant recommendations, Ola for cab bookings, Urbanclap for services and so much more.
One of the best features that I liked about Alexa is that it can be linked to your calendar as well.
Once you do that it will read out your daily calendar as well, set reminders for you and give you time to time notifications on things which you need to keep a track of.
Keeping the future in mind Amazon has also started introducing the Alexa integration with products as well, which means that there will be a new slew of products which will be ready for integration with Alexa.
And they can be controlled with Alexa’s commands. For example, let’s take the example of lights.
If in India you buy Syska led wifi bulb or any other smart home bulb you can control them through Alexa by just a simple command say “ Alexa please dim the lights “ or “ Alexa turn off the lights “
Apart from this, I loved the integration they have with Saavn and Amazon prime music. You can say something like Alexa, please play top 15 Punjabi songs for me and it will pull top 15 list from either Saavn or Amazon Prime music and play it for you.
Amazon says that all Amazon Echo buyers will get one free year of Prime music for free along with the prime membership package which is for the duration of one year.
(It has far-field voice technology & 7 microphones through which it can catch your voice)
And the best thing out of all is that whatever you order, let’s say you make an order from Alexa for a book. It will directly link it up for their Amazon store and pull up the books from there only.
All your internet purchases will happen from Amazon only.
In the US and other countries where Alexa is popular, they offer special discounts and deals to people who are ordering stuff from Alexa. I am guessing that it will be the same case with India as well.
Which Amazon Echo Should I Buy? Echo Dot? Amazon Echo? Echo Plus?
For someone who is looking to experience the benefits of having an Alexa but wants to have a budget for it then Echo dot would be the best choice in my personal opinion.
The current price of Echo dot is Rs. 4499, but right now they are offering a special 30% discount where it will selling at Rs. 3149. And with this, you will also get one year of Amazon prime and prime music for free with your device purchase.
Although Echo Dot is little small in terms of size but capability wise it is as good as the other models except for a few hardware changes here and there.
The only drawback with this model is that you don’t have smart home functionality with this particular device.
It is a small device and comes in 2 colours: Black and white.
Echo dot has a sleek & compatible design which will add beauty to where you keep it.
You can even connect echo dot to another speaker system at your home using a simple 3.5 mm cable or even through Bluetooth.
I think if you want to buy it, now is the right time otherwise the prices might go up really soon just like how they did it with Amazon Prime membership.
The difference between Amazon echo and echo dot is that Amazon echo is a little bigger in size and has powerful speakers that will fill up your room with 360-degree sounds and fill the room with delivering crisp vocals and dynamic bass surround sound.
It has a 2.5-inch firing woofer & .6 inch tweeter powered by Dolby to deliver a solid and surround sound rich experience.
If you are looking for a standalone device that can take your commands and can also play music and audio notes then Amazon Echo is a good choice for you.
It comes in three colours: Black, White and space grey.
The retail price for amazon echo is Rs. 9999 but right now with 30% discount, they are retailing it at Rs. 6999.
Echo plus is the most advanced device in the range of echo. Echo plus is a smart designed speaker system that you can control with your voice, and it has an inbuilt smart home hub.
Smart home hub feature lets you control your smart devices at home like lights, appliances etc.
Because there is a new movement of smart devices that’s going where all the appliances will be connected to each other. To do that you need to have a ZigBee protocol ready appliances.
And to take this even a step forward Amazon has launched a whole slew of integrated products on their portal which can be integrated with Alexa. Go here and have a look.
Not only that but it also has multi-room audio capabilities which means that if you are trying to give instructions to it from the other room, it will be able to detect audio input from other rooms as well.
It comes in 2 colours: Black and white
It is retailing at Rs. 14,999 but if you buy right now through the 30% discount you will get it for Rs. 10,499.
If you are someone who is looking to get another snazzy device that cuts down on your manual tasks and helps you in having fun with music and takes orders from you. I think you will like Alexa.
It’s a fun device and something that is definitely worth a checkout.
From what I have seen most users use it for audio songs and checking it up for timers. You can use it a for a lot of use cases and see if it fits into your lifestyle or not.
You don’t really need an Alexa device you can almost function without it but it just needs to boost up your convenience.
I think out of all three device Echo plus is the one that stands out and if you can buy it right now it would be great since you can get a good price for it.
